About the Artist

Originally from Oakville, Ontario, I graduated from Ontario College of Art & Design in 2003, with a focus on drawing and painting. Following graduation, I decided to pursue a different “calling” and went on to obtain a degree in nursing. For 13 years, I worked as a Public Health Nurse in health promotion/ chronic disease prevention. During that time, I continued to create art in various forms even incorporating it into some of my work in community and schools, but also for myself as a meditative process. Following the birth of my 3 sons, I have resumed my painting practice, and have participated in several group shows over the past three years. I currently practice in Dundas, Ontario, where I live with my family.

Artist Statement

I am interested in exploring the positive impacts of art, nature and hobbies on both our physical and mental health. Having worked extensively as a Public Health Nurse, my focus has always been on finding upstream ways to promote health and wellbeing. Gardening, as a hobby, combines physical activity, fresh air, meditation, cognitive stimulation, problem solving, community engagement, and spirituality. The garden provides a sense of calm; an anchor to what is real, in a time when we aren’t always so sure. In my work, I am trying to bring the essence of calm and serenity that one finds in the garden, to my pieces. I use a variety of mediums including acrylic paints and inks, pencil, gouache, spray paint and modelling paste, to build up multi layered works that, much like a garden, appear simple from a distance but reveal layers of detail and intricacy when examined closely.
